The spooks or the nerd

Image
The spooks or the nerd Throughout the book of black swan green, we follow a 13 year old boy named Jason. We see a whole year of his life and the decisions that he makes throughout the novel. Also well throughout the novel we also get to see the two sides of Jason that he has to pick. Either he is with the cool kids and is a spooks, or he is going to be "gay" and be a writer. We see Jason in the novel switch between which of the two he wants to be. There are also two very important people that influence these two choices Jason is making. The first person is Hugo, Jasons 2 year older cousin. The second person is Madame Crommelynck (that name takes forever to write...). These two people were very important for Jason growth as a character and for which side Jason was going to chose.     The first person I want to talk about is Hugo. During the beginning of the book Jason heavily admires Hugo. I will give a quote from the book when Jason describes Hugo when us the reade...

Looking into Bruce Bechdel

Image
In the book Fun Home, we go over the life of Alison Bechdel and the life of her family. Mainly being Alison's father. What makes Fun very different from what most of the coming of age novels that we are reading, is that fact that the protagonist "Alison Bechdel" is actual the real Alison Bechdel. While most of the other coming of age books have protagonists that are not the real authors, but they have similar experiences to the authors. That detail I always though was interesting and cool about the book. Back to the book, I think that Alisons dad (the person we mainly focus on throughout the novel) is one of the most complex and interesting characters in the story. Furthermore, one of the most important pages in the book reflects on Bruce's decisions, and adds a lot more to his character. All it took was just two pages. In this blog post I am going to talk about mainly the roy picture as well as talk about the information we learn about Bruce Bechdel.   ...

How Esther Greenwood sees Society.

Image
How Esther Greenwood sees Society      While reading the book " The Bell Jar."  We have followed it through the perspective of Esther Greenwood, A 19-20 year old women going through depression when coming back from her trip too New York. I think that one of the main causes of her deteriorating mental scape is because of how society was in the mid 19th century. While we have therapy and other ways to help we our mental health. Those things weren't as prominent while Esther was around. And during the that time period, it was men over women. There are some men in the 21st century who believe they are over women. But, like I said it was more normalized in the 19th Century. Esther Greenwood sees this flaw in Society, while everyone thinks it normal. In this blog post I am going to go through some examples on how Esther sees society.      My first example is going to be Buddy Willard. While I am an avid Buddy Willard supporter, He still has a lot ...

How Holden See Us and why do we get him?

Image
How Holden See Us and why do we get him?     In the book of Catcher in the Rye we follow the character H olden Caulfield and his journey across New York. When I finished the book I was wondering about something. When I was reading about Holden's experience, he kept on saying thing to me the reader "You would have loved this" or Holden would say things like "You are like them." Holden even gives us information about his dead brother Allie, the only people who have even heard about this is Jean Gallagher and most likely Holden's old English teacher Mr. Antolini. So, why is it that he trusts us with that information. For this blog post I want to dig deeper about Holdon's trust and vulnerability the reader.      For my examples I want to talk about are the fights that Holden gets into. I will start with the Stradlater fight first.  Stradlater was one of the people that was kinda "friends" with Holden and was also Holden's roommate. Normally if...

Lee Oswalds personality in Libra

Lee Oswalds personality in Libra         In the book Libra we get a deep conspiracy theory on the Kennedy assassination. We dive into the CIA and other shady character that are trying to plot the death of John F Kennedy. We also go through a character named Lee Oswald. Who is a real historical figure. Lee was the person who killed JFK and in this book we to get to see how the author thinks Lee's character was and how he ending up being the one to assassinate JFK. In this blog I just wanted to talk about Lee's Character, go over his personality, and see if he is similar to other characters that are in historical fiction novels that I am reading.      When I think of Lee as a character in the novel, I think of someone who can be very logical and smart sometimes. And he knows how to read things while he was not at the age level, while having a disability. Overall, he seems like a smart guy how knows what his is doing. While he does have some thinking...

Dana's Effect on Rufus

Dana's Effect on Rufus and Herself      When were first met the character Dana, she was always a kind person. I person who would put herself over others. For example in the chapter the River. When Dana first meets Rufus, who was drowning in the river. Her first thought was to save him from drowning. In that moment I feel like that shows a Character who is kind and cares for other people. In the book Kindred Dana's goal is to make sure Rufus and Alice *her two ancestors* to have a child called Hagar Greenwood. While Dana is on her mission as the kind person she is, she wants to make Rufus into a good slave owner who treats his slaves well. She also wants to make Alice and Rufus get married. Dana wants to be this minor observer who just experiences and adjusts from the shadows of the past. But how long can Dana keep observing until see is part of the system. Since her "observing" is her pretending to be a slave in the plantation. Later on all of the pretending that Dana...

Jes Grew an in depth Analysis

Image
Jes Grew an in depth Analysis     In the book Mumbo Jumbo there are a lot of different and unique concepts in the novel. The main plot of this novel is the spread of a "virus" called Jes Grew. Some people call it an "Anti-Virus" because it is non-lethal in any way. Jes Grew is a certain culture growth that effects a country or maybe even effects the world. In the story Jes grew is a development of Black and African culture spreading in America trying to find the text. Overall this concept is very interesting to me. So, for this blog post I want to dive deep into the "Anti-Virus" Jes Grew and anything similar to it.  I would like to First talk about the a similarity to Jes Grew which is in the book Ragtime . In the book Ragtime, there was a character named Coalhouse Walker Jr. and we specialized in Ragtime music. Ragtime music was a mixture of European classical music and then added with African-American rhythms movements and traditions. The growth of Ragti...
